Cloudy Bay Clams

“Stephen is genuinely keen to see our business succeed. His real drive is helping other people to grow and develop, and that’s something you can’t fake.”

Cloudy Bay Clams grounds its operation with good, old-fashioned family values. The company is a pioneer in the seafood industry with the way it harvests quality surf clams and both their fishery and chain of custody are recognised as a ‘Friend of the Sea’, the international seal of approval for marine sustainability.

For more than a decade, Stephen Doecke has been involved with the family business.

“He helps us manage our risk,” explains managing director Isaac Piper, son of founder Ant Piper. “Stephen is our backstop. If ever we need to claim on our policies, he’ll come around with all the necessary paperwork filled out and walk us through where to sign.”

Isaac describes the relationship Cloudy Bay Clams has with Asset Insurance Partners as a real partnership. “Because he takes on the responsibility of making sure our business risk is appropriately managed, that means we can focus on what we do best: harvesting and exporting delicious clams.”

But the partnership runs deeper than just dealing with insurance.

“Stephen is genuinely keen to see our business succeed. His real drive is helping other people to grow and develop, and that’s something you can’t fake.”

It was Stephen who urged Issac to accept a development programme place to Japan and, through the Asset Insurance Partners IQ-M scholarship, attend The Icehouse Owner Manager Programme.

“We’ve now had four of our leadership team complete one of The Icehouse courses,” says Isaac. “It’s part of our ultimate goal to have a clear career development path for each of our employees.”

And it was all kicked off by Stephen Doecke.

“He provides a fantastic service. I really am grateful,” says Isaac.
